Yasmin Jayathirtha is a chemist by training and enjoys the subject hugely. After a research career for some years, she moved to teaching. In 1990, she, and a group of colleagues started a school called Centre for Learning, to explore learning and teaching. For 30 years, she explored teaching chemistry using easily available materials, and shared the ideas in a column in Teacher Plus. She was also involved with the teacher education programme of Azim Premji University.
